From Australia to Tarragona: Gary and Annette’s Electric Gurugú for Serious Tandem MTB 🇦🇺🦘
Gary and Annette travelled from Shellharbour, near Sydney, Australia to our workshop in Tarragona to collect a very special bike: a custom Bosch-powered Gurugú built for serious off-road riding. After 12 days testing it around Tremp, they would take their new electric Gurugú to Australia, ready for the demanding tandem MTB trails they love.

The story behind this tandem
Gary and Annette first contacted Campmajó Bikes in 2022 while searching online for a custom full-suspension mountain tandem. They had already owned different dual-suspension tandems built around standard sizes, but they were looking for something more precise: a tandem made to measure, with better comfort, more stability and a more efficient pedalling position for both riders.
That first Campmajó was a muscular full-suspension enduro tandem, at the time called EN-DUO. It became their main reference for mountain tandem riding: a bike built for real trails, demanding terrain and long-term use.
When they decided to add an electric tandem to their setup, they were not simply looking for another bike. They were looking for a modern, custom-built, full-suspension electric mountain tandem capable of handling the kind of riding they do in Australia. At this level, with this amount of personalisation and off-road capability, there are very few real alternatives on the market.
That is where the new Campmajó Gurugú electric made sense. It gave them the electric assistance they wanted, but without losing the geometry, strength and trail-focused character they already had in their Campmajó tandem.
Their trip to Tarragona also made the project especially special for us. They were able to see where their tandem had been made, meet the team in person, make the final adjustments and test the bike before taking it home. Over twelve days, they rode 360 km around the area, including routes near Tremp, looking for as much singletrack as possible.
Key features
The main idea behind this project was to create an electric Gurugú that felt as close as possible to their previous Campmajó ENDUO.
Gary and Annette often travel with more than one tandem in Australia because tandem-specific repairs can be complicated when they are far from home. For that reason, compatibility was a key part of the design. The new electric Gurugú was planned so their existing Campmajó could remain their main backup bike, with as many interchangeable parts as possible.
We kept the same geometry, the same enduro concept and the same suspension travel. The cockpit was also matched carefully, with the same riding position, same stem logic and same handlebar setup. This means the new electric tandem does not feel like a completely different bike, but like an evolution of the Campmajó they already know.
The build was also designed around electronic systems. With SRAM AXS shifting and the possibility of using wireless AXS dropper posts, the frame did not need unnecessary routing for mechanical cables. This keeps the bike cleaner, simpler and more refined.
Aesthetically, the vivid orange finish gives the bike a very strong identity. The orange anodised details on the Racing Parts M30 wheels connect beautifully with the frame colour, creating a bold but coherent look. It is a technical build, but also a very personal one.
Component build
This is a very high-end build for experienced tandem mountain bikers who ride demanding terrain and need a reliable, precise and powerful setup. The Bosch Performance Line CX motor, 800 Wh battery with PowerMore extender, Fox Factory suspension and SRAM AXS drivetrain make this Gurugú a modern electric tandem designed for serious mountain riding.

For us, this project represents what custom building is really about. It is not only about choosing components or paint colours. It is about listening to experienced riders, understanding how they use their bikes and building something that fits their real life.
In this case, that meant creating an electric Gurugú that could travel back to Australia ready for many more shared mountain bike adventures.
