Built for a round-the-world tandem journey: Chiara and Daniel's Touring project 🌎💫

Chiara and Daniel came to Campmajó with a clear and ambitious plan: to travel around the world by tandem. They needed a bike ready for roads, deserts, mountain tracks, mud, salt, luggage and a trailer. More than a lightweight build, they were looking for a modern, robust and reliable tandem for real long-distance adventure.

The story behind this tandem

Chiara and Daniel are a young couple with years of experience travelling together by tandem. Their rides have already taken them around the world, often fully loaded and with a trailer to carry everything they need.

For their next project, they wanted to go one step further: a round-the-world journey by tandem. That meant finding a bike that could handle many different surfaces and conditions while remaining comfortable, strong and easy to maintain.

When they contacted us, they described the concept very clearly: a rigid gravel-mountain tandem with flat handlebars, wide tyre clearance and a frame built more for resistance than for minimum weight. The Campmajó Touring model was the natural fit for that idea.

Main characteristics

This custom Touring tandem was designed around comfort, strength and practical travel use. The riding position is more relaxed than on a performance-focused tandem, making it better suited to long days at a steady pace.

The frame has clearance for wider mountain-bike tyres, giving Chiara and Daniel more flexibility when adapting the bike to roads, gravel, desert tracks or more demanding terrain.

Load capacity was also essential. They travel with panniers and use a trailer attached at the rear, so the back of the tandem needed to be especially robust. The Touring frame is built with this kind of use in mind, with the possibility of mounting racks both at the front and at the rear.

The bottle-cage layout was also adapted around their panniers. In addition to the standard positions for both riders, the Touring system includes extra mounting points under the down tube and on the top tube, useful for long-distance travel where every detail matters.

Components and build

This build was focused on reliability, strength and real-world usability. Chiara and Daniel supplied some of the components they wanted to use for their travels, including the wheels, pannier racks, saddles, tyres and bottle cages. Campmajó completed the rest of the build following the usual Touring setup. Main details of the project:
